Joanne Freeman received a BS in Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin and MA
in Studio Art from New York University. She served as the Vice President of American
Abstract Artists, 2018-2024 and she is a 2024 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Painting.
She is a 2021 recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. Her work has been
shown nationally and internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her most
recent solo exhibitions were at Gilman Contemporary in Ketchum, Idaho, 2024 and at
Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York, 2023. She lives and works in New York City.

Freeman has been a visiting artist at; New York University, The New School for Social
Research, The New York Studio School, Massachusetts College of Art, Chautauqua
School of Art, The Marie Sharpe Foundation and the Rome Art Program.
